At launch, the X Speed card (which reduces your retreat cost by one energy) was essential for any deck, allowing you to pull a card with low HP back to your bench in a pinch
I used my collection of random cards, which probably has a low rate of foils for un-sleeved cards, and I used my decks for sleeved cards which probably have a high rate of foils
The only card that doesn't see frequent play in Voltron decks here is Staff of the Storyteller, and that's only because this is the first time it's being reprinted outside of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander precon
